Inclimate and Cold Weather Masonry Construction - continued
Enveloping or tenting-in is great, however, caring and safety for unattended overnight heat supplied jobs is really dangerous. Tarps are probably the best. Reinforced rolls of PVC are a good choice generally because you have light.
Avoid wind-chill. Wind-chill is real. Basically, wind-chill dehydrates the masonry cement, destroying bond with the brick, which will lead to increasing leaking walls problems.
Avoid using sand with ice in it. Avoid contamination of sand source with mud. This affects relationship with masonry cement.
Use good common sense and practicality during rougher construction times. Budgets must be addressed during the October to April time periods.
Contact your source of supply for recommended materials and information for proper use before the job starts. This is important to get everyone "in the loop". Obviously, if you have to spend more money during rougher time periods, don't lose more money by poor communications and bad information.
Refer to Cold Weather Construction Industry Standard, adopted by BIA, NABA, AIA, CSI and NCMA among other recognized experts.
